Introducing the Bullet Journal NaNoPrep Planner Online Course

A short, powerful, reusable online course that will help you prepare for NaNoWriMo!

Every year I see writers who either forget about National Novel Writing Month until two months or less before November, or who know it’s coming but keep putting off the preparations they want to do. “There’s plenty of time,” they say to themselves.

Then suddenly it’s October 23rd and you have nothing ready to write.

The truth is that NaNoPrep, if you’re going to do any, needs to start early. It’s not enough to have an amorphous goal.

You need a plan.

That’s why I’m teaching the Bullet Journal NaNoPrep Planner Online Course. This short course has three easy modules that will walk you through everything you need to make that plan.

  • Identify HOW you should prepare
  • Choose WHAT you want to do from 13 Tasks
  • Estimate how much TIME you really have
  • Set weekly GOALS
  • Have a flexible PLAN OF ACTION
  • Draft with CONFIDENCE

The course provides a Checklist, Calendar blanks, and a Weekly Spread to help you prioritize, set achievable timelines, and succeed in not only planning but taking action.

I needed a plan.

I learned the hard way in 2017 that I needed to do a lot of prep to write a novel. I’d spent over a year preparing to write my 2016 novel, and multiple years working on one book before that. Clearly I needed that time and all those exercises.

The fact is that your Draft 0 comes out better if you’ve taken time to prepare.

Sure, you can salvage a pantsed novel, written totally organically and just following wherever the characters take you. But that’s a lot of work. It’s way easier to change things up before you commit prose to page.

So what should you do for NaNoPrep?

I’ve selected 13 Tasks I recommend you do to prepare to write your novel. These are Tasks that will help you understand your characters on a deeper level, tease out what truly matters in your story, and lay out a structure that will help you get there.

Pro Tip: It’s not a bunch of character dossiers asking for their favorite colors and childhood pets.

None of the Tasks are required, you get to choose which ones you want to do and then which ones you actually have time for. Some are better suited for pantsers, some for planners. It’s up to you.

Join the journey to November

If you’ve ever felt unprepared to start your book on November 1 this is the course for you.

I’m using this method myself, and will be posting my progress on Instagram and Twitter at #monsterwriters. I’m excited to start, and I hope you are, too!
